Failed Test Help

What to Do After a Failed Backflow Test

A failed test means the assembly did not meet the required performance standard at the time of testing. It does not automatically mean the entire device must be replaced.

Typical next steps

  1. Review the failed-test findings and identify the assembly.
  2. Have a qualified provider diagnose whether cleaning, repair, overhaul, or replacement is appropriate.
  3. Complete the corrective work within the deadline that applies to the property.
  4. Retest the assembly and submit the passing result as required.

Buckeye deadline

For consumers other than single-family residential customers, Buckeye City Code requires a failed assembly to be repaired, overhauled, or replaced within 10 days after notification. The assembly must then pass a retest and the result must be submitted.

Repair or replacement?

Repair may be practical when the body is serviceable and replacement parts are available. Replacement may be more sensible when the assembly is severely damaged, obsolete, incorrectly sized, or repeatedly failing.
